Québec Study on the Accessibility and Use of Childcare Services 2021

This study aims to provide a portrait of families with children aged 0 to 5 years with regard to childcare services. To this end, Statistique Québec collects information on the care needs of families, the search for childcare and whether or not childcare services are used.

What is the Institut de la statistique du Québec?

The Institut de la Statistique du Québec, also known as Statistique Québec, is a government agency whose mission is to produce, analyze and disseminate official, objective and high-quality statistics on various aspects of Québec society.

How do I participate in the study?

To participate in the study, you simply have to:

If necessary, you can exit the questionnaire and return to finish it at a more convenient time.

If you do not have access to the Internet, Statistique Québec will call you to complete the questionnaire over the phone. If you are not available when we call, you can let us know what time would be more convenient for you.

I tried accessing the questionnaire, but keep getting an error message. What should I do?

Make sure you entered your identifier and password correctly, without any spaces before or after.

You can contact Statistique Québec by phone at 1-800-561-0213 or by e-mail at gardeqc@stat.gouv.qc.ca.

In your message, please mention the name of the study printed on your invitation letter, as well as your name and contact information.

We will respond to your request within 24 hours during our office hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    Why were you chosen?

You have been randomly selected, like thousands of parents of children under the age of 5 as of September 30, 2020.

We only obtained the personal information needed for the survey, including your contact information, from Retraite Québec under an agreement approved by the Commission d’accès à l’information in accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information.

Do you have to participate in this study?

Your participation in the study is voluntary, but important because it will provide a portrait of the accessibility and use of childcare services in Québec and enable us to verify if those services meet the needs of families. Ultimately, the information you provide will help inform the provision of services for children and parents.

What information on childcare do I need to know to answer the questionnaire?

If your child has already attended childcare on a regular basis, you will be asked information about his/her childcare setting(s) (e.g., name of the establishment and cost). It would be helpful to have this information with you when completing the questionnaire. A document containing the definition of the main terms used in the questionnaire is available at this address: statistique.quebec.ca/en/fichier/284-reference_en.pdf.

    Are the phone calls recorded?

For quality and training purposes, phone calls with Statistique Québec agents are recorded. However, if you don't want the call to be recorded, simply notify the agent at the beginning of the call.

What is Statistique Québec’s privacy policy?

The Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec guarantees that the information you provide will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes. All Statistique Québec employees have taken an oath before a commissioner and are bound to maintain the secrecy and confidentiality of the data they collect.

Will you share my answers with other individuals or organizations?

Under the terms of the agreement between the Institut and the Ministère de la Famille, to whom we will transmit the data collected, with the exception of your last name, first name, address, postal code and telephone number, and the last name, first name and date of birth of your child.

All of your information will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes.
