    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is the Institut de la statistique du Québec?

    The Institut de la statistique du Québec is a government agency whose mission is to produce, analyze and disseminate official, objective and quality statistics on various aspects of Québec society.

    What does my business have to do to participate in the survey?

    Preliminary stage of the survey

    First, we ask you to provide the contact information of the person in your business who will be able to answer questions, such as about your business’s Internet access, Internet presence, e-commerce, use of information technology, use of cloud computing, computer security, and investment in information technology. We will also ask you to confirm some information. This step should only take a few minutes.

    To do so, you simply have to:

    An e-mail will be sent to the person you have identified so they can complete the questionnaire. This person will have a few weeks to complete it.

    Questionnaire to be completed

    To access the survey questionnaire, the person you have identified will have to:

    • Go to statistique.quebec.ca/e380e;
    • Enter the identifier provided in the e-mail they received or on the invitation letter sent to the business;
    • Create a password.

    They can then start completing the survey. If necessary, they can exit the questionnaire and return to finish it at a more convenient time.

    The Institut de la statistique du Québec will call the persons who have not submitted their online questionnaire to obtain their answers by telephone. If they are not available when we call, they can let us know what time would be more convenient for them.

    If we are unable to reach the identified person by telephone, a reminder letter will be sent to the business.

    An error message appears when I try to log into the questionnaire. What should I do?

    If you see an error message, first of all make sure that you correctly entered your identifier, without any spaces before or after. If you still see an error message, contact the Institut de la statistique du Québec by telephone at 1-800-561-0213 or by e-mail at collecte_internet@stat.gouv.qc.ca.

    You will have to mention the name of the survey indicated on the invitation letter sent to the business or in the e-mail you received, your name, and your contact information.

    We will respond to your request within 24 hours during our office hours: Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

    Are telephone interviews recorded?

    For quality and training purposes, telephone interviews with the Institut de la statistique du Québec agents are recorded. Any person who does not want their interview to be recorded can notify the agent at the beginning of the call.

    Why was my business chosen?

    Your business was selected from a file produced based on the information in Statistics Canada’s Business Register (BR) database. The Institut de la statistique du Québec selects its samples randomly. For the needs of this survey, the sample had to take into account industry sectors and business sizes.

    Is my business’s participation mandatory?

    As set out in section 11 of the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, the Chief Statistician has the right to determine which requests for information are to be considered mandatory if he deems that such information is necessary to produce reliable statistics. It was determined by the Chief Statistician that this survey should be mandatory.

    As a result, your business is legally obligated to take part in the survey. Under the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec, anyone asked to provide the Institut with information deemed mandatory must do so by the prescribed deadline and in the prescribed format.
