Québec, February 22, 2023. – In November 2022, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices was up 0.2%, following a 0.6% increase in October. This was revealed in the publication Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, novembre 2022 released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
Service output up 0.3%
Output in the service industries grew 0.3% in November, following a 0.6% increase in October. Wholesale trade (+1.5%), health care and social assistance (+0.7%) and transportation and warehousing (+1.4%) are the sectors that contributed the most to the increase in November, while retail trade declined by 0.9%.
Goods output declined by 0.1%
Output in the goods-producing industries was down 0.1% in November, after a 0.9% increase in October. In November, mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (-4.2%) and agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting (-2.5%) posted the sharpest declines, while manufacturing recorded a notable increase of 1.0%.
The growth in manufacturing real GDP in November came from increases in 15 of its 19 subsectors, including transportation equipment manufacturing (+1.8%) and beverage and tobacco product manufacturing (+4.3%).
Cumulative total for the first eleven months of 2022: Québec’s real GDP up 3.0%
For the first eleven months of 2022, Québec’s real GDP was 3.0% higher than in the same months of 2021. The sectors that contributed the most to this increase are professional, scientific and technical services (+5.6%), transportation and warehousing (+10.8%), accommodation and food services (+22.7%), manufacturing (+2.8%), and educational services (+5.5%).
Canada’s real GDP at basic prices up in November 2022
According to data published by Statistics Canada on January 31, 2023, Canada’s real GDP at basic prices rose by 0.1% in November 2022 from the previous month. Service-producing industries increased by 0.2%, while goods-producing industries decreased by 0.1%.
