Québec, October 25, 2022. – In July 2022, Québec’s real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices was down 0.5% after a decrease of 0.4% in June. This was revealed in Produit intérieur brut par industrie au Québec, juillet 2022 released today by the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
Goods output down 0.9%
For the fourth consecutive month, output in the goods-producing industries decreased (-0.9% in July). The decline in July was mainly due to the construction sector (-3.6%). Manufacturing (-0.6%) and agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting (-3.0%) were also down. In contrast, utilities (+3.0%) and mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+1.7%) posted increases.
The drop in manufacturing real GDP in July stems from a decline in 9 of its 19 subsectors, including machinery manufacturing (-5.4%), non-metallic mineral product manufacturing (-9.1%) and food manufacturing (-3.0%).
Service production down 0.3%
Service industries were down 0.3% in July after decreasing 0.2% in June. The decline in July was mostly on account of wholesale trade (-4.1%). On the other hand, professional, scientific and technical services (+0.8%) and public administration (+0.6%) registered significant gains.
Cumulative total for the first seven months of 2022: Québec’s real GDP up 3.8%
For the first seven months of 2022, Québec’s real GDP was 3.8% higher than in the same months of 2021. The sectors that contributed the most to this increase are manufacturing (+4.3%), accommodation and food services (+33.3%), transportation and warehousing (+13.2%), professional, scientific and technical services (+5.7%), educational services (+5.9%), and retail trade (+4.8%).

Canada’s real GDP at basic prices up in July 2022
According to data published by Statistics Canada on September 29, 2022, Canada’s real GDP at basic prices was up 0.1% in July 2022 from the previous month. Goods-producing industries rose by 0.5%, while service-producing industries were down 0.1%.
